Needle felted creations by Karen Waschinski

My needle felting adventure began in 2005 when I took part in a workshop given by Ev Scott
in St. Marys, Ontario.  Ev was a great instructor and I used what I learned in various projects but only every now and again.

My flying mouse has needle felted feet and this simple mouse in a wreath was needle felted for a fundraising auction in 2017.

In 2020, when I came to the conclusion that my eyesight no longer allowed me to enjoy the detailed stitching involved in making my soft sculpture critters, I shifted into needle felting and rediscovered this world I had only previously only glanced into.  (While needle felting certainly is detailed, it's less straining on the eyes and far more forgiving.)

My first creations were simple and primitive but I was hooked!  And from there...

The perfect picnic spot:  do you agree?

I look forward to doing more two dimensional pieces in the future, like this fox in a Summer meadow:

You can see how it came to life here on my blog.

I can't take credit for all these wonderful mushrooms:  my sister Doris made one and my mother made one in a workshop I gave.  You can read about the workshop here on my blog, as well as the 2D beach workshop my sister gave.

These critters were made one hot and steamy August and donated to Procyon Wildlife Rehabilitation and Rescue Centre for their 2022 annual online auction.

Maple Toffee the mouse scurried outside to make the last snowman of the year before all the snow melted away and made friends with a wren back from Winter holiday.

This scene is for sale, $120.

I had to try my hand at making a Canadian beaver... this is Nickel!  He's also for sale, $20.

Workshops are being planned and I'd love to hear from you if you're curious about learning how to needle felt!   Locations will be announced as plans become more concrete.

Please do return, or email me if you'd like to be added to my emailing list and you'll be among the first to see just-finished works.
