Quilled, or Paper Filigree, creations by Karen Waschinski

On this page I will be presenting my quilled works and the art of paper filigree.

Of course I made rats!

Quilling requires very few tools and supplies, so it's a great craft to try.  Steady hands and patience are a must!

The only limitation is your imagination.

Most quilling is two dimensional but three dimensional objects are interesting to make too, like this succulent garden.

While I was active in the Teddy Bear/soft sculpture show community for many years, 2018 marked my first exhibition of a quilled piece, with "Under Her Skin" debuting at the Elora Centre for the Arts in July 2018 in the "Backyard Botanicals" show.

Also in that year, I created a wreath for their silent auction event.  I think seeing the creative process is really interesting and I appreciate it when fellow artists show how it's done, so you can see how this wreath was created on my blog here.

Here's another wreath featuring natural colors.

This butterfly garden, once completed, was fixed to a sheet of glass in a frame over a textile piece created by Maggie Vanderweit of Stone Threads Fibre Art.  The end result was fantastic!  The glass glare, however, doesn't allow for a great photograph.

Snowflakes are favorites when it comes to quilling and they make lovely ornaments, especially as they're so light and delicate.

Here's another variation on the snowflake:  this one was made for Solstice.

Would you like to learn how to quill?

Workshops are being planned and I'd love to hear from you if you're curious about this ancient art!   Locations will be announced as plans become more concrete.

Please do return, or email me if you'd like to be added to my emailing list and you'll be among the first to see just-finished works.
